WP Calais Auto Tagger Updated (v1.3.1)

WP Calais Auto Tagger has been updated to version 1.3 and works on new versions of WordPress again. This is a complete rewrite of the tagging interface to hopefully make the plugin more resilient — it’s been breaking when WordPress releases new versions too often for my liking. Now it replaces the WordPress tag interface entirely with its own, which has the same functionality (add and remove tags) as well as the ability to suggest tags based on the post content.

Update: v1.3.1 fixes bugs with the visual editor and scheduled posts.

    Hm, this was working great. Then I upgraded to wp 2.8.5, and then upgraded this plugin to 1.3. Now it’s semi-broken. It brings up the suggested tags, with each in a blue box, but there is no green PLUS sign + next to each. So, while it’s still useful, I have to manually type them into your Add Your Own Tags field. Likewise, no red MINUS signs appear next to the ones under Post Tags.

    Donna, is the folder the plugin is in named “calais-auto-tagger”? This is what it should be for it to find its images.

    Yes, that’s the name. Just a standard installation of the plugin with no changes to it.

    Maybe it’s because your blog is installed in a subdirectory… well, the great thing about free open source is that you can open the code and fix the URL to the images.

    Yep, that was the problem. I added /blog in front of /wp-content/plugins/calais-auto-tagger/images/add.png and //wp-content/plugins/calais-auto-tagger/images/delete.png in the calais-auto-tagger/js.inc file, and that solved the problem. Thanks. I probably wouldn’t have thought of trying that.

    Hi Dan!

    I was using Tagaroo and upgraded my blog to WP 3.0. Tagaroo stopped working and it did other damage by stopping the media control to work properly. Deactivating the plugin made things work again.

    Just installed your plugin and it works great. Thanks. One question: The tag suggestions as they are coming from OpenCalais are the same as with Tagaroo?

    The suggestions do come from OpenCalais, but I can’t guarantee they’re the same as Tagaroo gives you. There are lots of little options you can pass in along with content to Calais and get different results back.

    Hi Dan, I too spotted the differences in tags returned between your great plugin and Tagaroo. For starters your plugin will return structured geographic tags such as “London, United Kingdom”.

    I’ve been trying to read up on the Calais API but haven’t found an answer to this one – do you know if you can set it to only return geographic tags? I see Tagaroo offers a drop-down to limit tags to All/Social/Country but Country appears to be just that, not a full set of all places.

    Humm… I noticed some time ago that my posts, generally very long, fail to return tags when submitted as a whole. I worked around this, sending them in two or three separate parts. Would there be a way to do this, without such hassle, in a controlled way? Thanks.

    Does this work with WordPress 3.1.3? Are you still supporting this plugin?
