Paprika
It’s nice to see good anime make its way onto an American theater screen. I just saw Paprika which opened in a few cities today; in this area as part of the Seattle International Film Festival. It’s from the director of Perfect Blue, Tokyo Godfathers, and Paranoia Agent. I found it entertaining and fun all the way through (much moreso than Perfect Blue), and the animation was just great. If you enjoy Japanese animation, and can get to a theater it’s playing at, I’d recommend it. Just don’t bring the kids; it’s rated R.
I think my “about” page gives it away pretty well, but if you hadn’t realized, I listen to soundtracks from anime more than any U.S. music. I think it’s the memories of the show or movie the songs are connected to that makes me like them so much. I was excited to find, just after writing this post, the writer of the Paprika soundtrack released some of the songs for free. I already had the CD in my cart at Amazon.com when I Googled his name. Lucky me.
