Reorganization Project

It’s time to reorganize Awio’s infrastructure. Two of the servers I rent are too old and the monthly fees too high for the hardware. The operating systems and software versions have become incredibly difficult to secure from very persistent hackers. The third server used to run my websites has a partially corrupted hard drive but no rental contract, so I might as well abandon it rather than try to get the drive replaced.

The plan is to consolidate to two higher end servers. To facilitate moving a few dozen websites, and establish a better backup policy than “every few months when I realize I should back this stuff up”, I also want to rent CVS space somewhere. I run svnserve on one of the servers now, but only three of my sites are under version control, and having the repository on the same system as the live code means both are wiped out in a drive failure or other loss of the data.

I’m looking for good deals on servers and CVS hosting. Right now I rent from NAC and LayeredTech. If you have any recommendations, please share.

    Yeah,
    I did the same thing back in October. Re-organized my whole site setup as part of the move, and got rid of some that weren’t doing anything anymore.

    Also, I keep my CVS server at home as well as my main development box, so then the only code that reaches the live server is code that has been tested first.
