Got the Job: Microsoft

January 22, 2007

I just got a voice mail and e-mail from one of the Microsoft recruiters I interviewed with last week letting me know I have a job. They’re hiring me as an Application Developer. I’ll be writing both Windows and web applications with C#/ASP.NET and SQL server.

This is great news. Now I need to buy a C# book.

  1. Congratulations! That is pretty nifty! Do you have to relocate?

  2. An Xbox and a job, good deal! Congrats, Dan.

  3. Yep, I’m moving to Washington in April.

Congratulations! I’ll now have to wonder how your blog content will change due to this (non-disclosure, lack of time, etc…). At least now with an XBox you might have slightly more in common with the other developers. ;) Halo 3 Developers’ LAN party, anyone?

  5. This is great, congrats Dan. I would really recommend the SitePoint asp.net 2.0 book. I may be partial because i have some credits in the book, but the author really did a great job of presenting the info. c# is my language of choice; i think you will definitely like it. Well done!

Are they helping pick up the tab with relocating you? seattle isnt exactly a low-cost of living area. Is this a full time job or an internship? if its an internship, how long will it be for?

  6. Hopefully you can make their company better. Congratulations.

  7. It’s an internship for 6 months from April to September. I will finish the last 3/4 of a year of my degree after that. Yeah, they do pay for the relocation and I hear about $500/month towards rent on top of the salary (which is really nice itself). They’ll be assigning me a personal relocation assistant shortly to give me the details and help me find a place to live, whether it’s Microsoft’s corporate housing or some place in Seattle, it’s up to me.

I’m lucky my lease on the apartment I live in now ends June 1st, and I paid the last month up front, so I’ll only be paying one month of rent after I move out.

  8. Congrats Dan,

I know you’ve been working hard at this field, so Microsoft internship should be fun.

Washington is a beautiful state too. We’ve done a few trips to Redmond and Seattle from up here in the Okanagan. Better make sure you have a camera on hand if you decide to do some exploring the area.
